Mike Wilkerson has been involved with natural healthcare and nutrition since the 1980’s when he studied Rolfing (a form of deep tissue massage) and Applied Kinesiology.Mike later became interested in chiropractic when he experienced dramatic improvement after receiving chiropractic care following a motorcycle accident. He later went on to become a ‘Licensed Chiropractor’ (Legitimerad Kiropraktor), receiving his legitimation in 2008, after having completed his studies at the Scandinavian College of Chiropractic in Stockholm, Sweden.
The title ‘Legitimerad Kiropraktor’ is particular to Scandinavia. In Sweden, the chiropractic profession is regulated by The National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen), and the title Kiropraktor is protected by law. Chiropractors are licensed and fully integrated into the Swedish health care system.
Licensure is granted to candidates only after having successfully completed 5 years
of full-time studies, culminating in a 12 week full-time internship in direct contact with medical specialists in the Swedish hospitals.
Chiropractors educated in the U.S., by contrast, receive the title ‘Doctor of Chiropractic’
or D.C. and in other parts of the world they often receive masters degrees in chiropractic (M.Sc.).
