What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a profession focused on improving health through natural means, without drugs and surgery. It is recognized by the World Health Organization, and is dedicated to caring for health by natural means, with emphasis on the relationship that exists between the vertebral column and correct function of the nervous system.
In the United States, Chiropractic is the third largest healthcare profession after traditional medicine and dentistry. There are over 60,000 chiropractors in the U.S., and over 70,000 worldwide. You can book an appointment with Nationwide Chiropractors or other clinics of your choice. Here in Spain, there are approximately 230 chiropractors.
In Spain, the profession is not yet regulated by law. There is no protection for the title of Chiropractor, and anyone can call themselves a chiropractor. Therefore, it is important to find a chiropractor with proper training. Chiropractic education typically consists of 5-6 years of full-time studies at the college/university level.
The World Federation of Chiropractic defines chiropractic as a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments, including spinal injuries, spinal adjustments, and other joint and soft-tissue manipulations.
